Our first AiR of 2018 is Auckland artist/musician, Ron Gallipoli.
Ron Gallipoli is a self-described ‘songwriter, electronic producer, physique model’ known for his dramatic, arresting live performances (watch him perform Lorde’s ‘Greenlight’ at 2017 Silver Scrolls). You may also know Ron Gallipoli from post-punk band Sharpie Crows. For 10 years, his music has walked the line between the political and ‘tropical-industrial’. In 2017, Gallipoli was host in Portugal by Zaratan – Arte Contemporânea. He is a member of the Black Lantern circle.
During his time in situ, Ron Gallipoli will prepare for his exhibition entitled ‘Black Lantern III: The Tooth and the Tree’ which will combine performance and publication exploring grammar, mysticism, and the repetitive horrors of history. Expect sounds, sentences, and the resurrection of an ancient form of divination.
