Waterfalls EP Release w. Disasteradio & Ducklingmonster – 23/04/2016

Waterfalls is celebrating the release of her debut EP! She will be joined by dream come true duo: Ducklingmonster and Disasteradio!

Waterfalls is the solo project of Wellington musician Amber Johnson. Her deconstructed modal pop music balances a strong melodic sensibility with hypnotic, ostinato cycles, invoking mood via an exploration of analog synthesisers and processed flute and vocal timbres. Eschewing standard pop-song structures, Waterfalls’ compositions instead weave through movements creating impressionistic atmospheres and crystallising emotional states. Lyrically, Waterfalls is primarily concerned with conveying mood, with tone taking precedence over storytelling. Distilled lyrics are realised as self-help incantations, idiomatic assertions of self-worth, emotional release valves and cautionary chants revealing the moments of clarity borne from nocturnal reflections on love, power and pain.

Ducklingmonster is the dunt loop under a hive of low lying electronics. Beats, lights, vocals, good manners

Disasteradio (Luke Rowell) is a thirty something upsize white male electronic musician who has been releasing music online since 1998. He heard Wendy Carlos’s “Switched On Bach” for the first time at the age of 6. That same year he got a Commodore 64, on which he taught himself sound. Luke has a hi-energy live show with synthesizers, computers, the occasional kid’s toy and cool stuff like vocoders and autotune, with a fun energy inherited from his upbringing in punk rock. synthesis.
