Roger Manins is one of Australasia’s leading modern jazz saxophonists, here he leads a new band – GRG 67 – playing his latest compositions.
From his unlikely roots in the Awhitu Peninsula, Manins moved to Sydney where he has based himself for most of his musical career. There, he thrived and came to prominence performing with the vanguard of Australian jazz. In 1996, Manins left for New York where he quickly immersed himself in the creative hub of the New York scene before returning to ebullient Australian scene. Now, back in Auckland, Roger performs and records regularly Mike Nock, Kevin Field, and Michel Benebig, while also teaching at Auckland University and running the Creative Jazz Club Aotearoa.
