RĀ MATĀ 11TH OF MAY AT SILO 6
Noa Records and the Audio Foundation present a hypnotic afternoon of acoustic music, blending tones born out of ngā taonga puoro, bowed strings and clarinets to form an ātaahua aural assemblage, filling and reflecting throughout Silo 6’s tall concrete cylinders.
RĀ MATĀ is a nod to the neighbouring Waitematā harbour, waters (in one version of its many stories) named via Te Arawa captain Tamatekapua following the placement of a piece of Matā (volcanic obsidian rock) in the water as a mauri stone. RĀ MATĀ is also a cheeky, loose transliteration of Mothers Day, which falls upon the same day of this event.
Performances by A Place to Play (a) Clarinet (Callum Passells, Sean Martin-Busse and Ben Sinclair), Rangatuone Ki Waitematā (taonga puoro/strings conduction), and Whare Tūngoungou Puoro Ensemble.
Join us this Sunday 11th of May at Silo 6, Silo Park 3-5PM – FREE ENTRY
