A night of improvisations and actions performed on unique invented instruments, found objects and object assemblages by Phil Dadson and Simon Allen.
PHIL DADSON
Phil Dadson is a sound and intermedia artist with an interdisciplinary practice including solo performances and exhibitions, building experimental instruments and sonic objects, video/sound installation; music composition, graphic scores and improvisations on invented instruments. He is the founder of the sound-performance group, From Scratch, (1974–2002), known widely for its rhythmic and distinctive performances on original instruments. In 2005 he was made an officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
SIMON ALLEN
Simon Allen is a UK composer / percussionist known as a free improviser and interpreter of experimental music, often playing self-made resources. His compositions explore text, photography and traditional notation combined, to communicate with other artists; recent pieces Map Fragments [2019] Aerosol (after Cornell) [2019] and Empty Air Thickens [2017] variously incorporate film and British sign language. His multi-media work Resonance At The Still Point Of Change [2012] for instruments, voices, multi-screen projection and lights was commissioned for the Cultural Olympiad. Simon has a long association with John Tilbury playing Feldman and can be heard playing in the ensembles Apartment House, Skogen and Ensemble Grizzana amongst others on Another Timbre, Matchless, ATOPOS, Naim Audio, Sibarecords, Tall Guy Records & EMI.
