Paul Smith (aka Reverbaphon aka Peace Myth) is a Scottish architect who makes off-kilter, non idiomatic music and experimental film. He lives in Auckland and is a member of the improvising collective ‘Vitamin S’. He also plays drums in the improvising trio ‘Plastic Sheep’ with Casey Gsell (bassoon) and Joel Vinsen (guitar).
Paul recently exhibited (and performed to) his films ‘Buddha Tooth Relic Temple’ and ‘Road’ in collaboration with the aleotoric music ensemble ‘3 Shades Black’ (dir: Miranda Hill) at the Auckland fringe festival.
Within the experimental electronica scene he has played alongside artists such as Kieren Hebden (Four Tet), Robin Rimbaud (Scanner), Christopher Horne (Christ / Boards of Canada), Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), Noah Lennox and Josh Dibb (Animal Collective), James Leyland Kirby (VVM) and collaborated with Matt Wand (Stockhausen and Walkman) at the Edinburgh fringe festival.
For these performances at the Auckland film fringe festival he and Casey Gsell are joined by Maurice Reviol (bass clarinet) forming the collective ‘Spool’.
They will be performing his sound/visual collages live using film media and a mixture of electronic and traditional instruments.
