Paul Buckton And Chris O’Connor – Improvisations For Guitar And Drums – 8/07/2023

8 july

Audio Foundation is pleased to present an intimate concert by two vastly experienced proponents of freely improvised music – Paul Buckton and Chris O’Connor.

Guitarist Paul Buckton has maintained a singular and personal approach to non-idiomatic improvisation since first encountering this radical approach to music making in England in the 1960’s. His musical journey has seen him perform with a huge array of innovative artists such as Simon H. Fell, Alan Wilkinson, Roger Turner and the Portsmouth Sinfonia, to his 20 year involvement in the Auckland improvisation collective Vitamin S. A fearless and constantly curious musician, Paul is an anchor in the Tāmaki experimental music community.

Drummer, percussionist, educator and music therapist Chris O’Connor has a wildly diverse skillset which sees him bring joy, surprise, inspiration and innovation to all musical performances he engages in – from free improvisation to stonking jazz to delicate folk to rapturous dance and anything in between.

This concert brings two artists together in the relentless pursuit and achievement of everyday inspiration.
