The Musical Electronics Library (M.E.L.) is once again happy to present the return of “Office Ambience” – a series in which artists are invited to perform in the Audio Foundation’s office space using pieces from the M.E.L. catalogue (https://mel.myturn.com/library/inventory/browse). Come down for a look and a listen, perhaps ask a few questions, and browse the M.E.L. collection.
Jonny Marks will demonstrate the EMS Synthi-AKS, one of the more important synthesisers of electronic music history; a staple of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and used by the avant garde and progessive pop groups from its first appearanc to today. The history of its use in Aotearoa begins with Douglas Lilburn and from there it became a must have for all the university music departments.
Jonny has been playing the Synthi for over 20 years, using it live in ensemble improvisations and as a soloist. He will be talking about the different ways he uses the Synthi and the different modules of this compact suitcase synthesiser. Bring something along and see how the Synthi can be used to process your sounds;interactive and hands on fun!!
