Office Ambience #10 Jan-Bas Bollen – 01/04/2023

office ambience 10

The Musical Electronics Library (M.E.L.) is once again happy to present the return of “Office Ambience” – a series in which artists are invited to perform in the Audio Foundation’s office space using pieces from the M.E.L. catalogue (https://mel.myturn.com/library/inventory/browse). Come down for a look and a listen, perhaps ask a few questions, and browse the M.E.L. collection.

On the 1st of April M.E.L. is thrilled to host Dutch composer/performer/inventor Jan-Bas Bollen and his new instrument the HyperTheremin.

The HyperTheremin is a touchless, magical instrument designed by Dutch composer Jan-Bas Bollen.
It allows him to create captivating sonic and visual poetry through manipulation of invisible controls,
revealed only by a precise choreography of his hands in space. Cleverly programmed faders and
switches are positioned in a virtual, multi-dimensional console, physically detached from the real
world. Bollen’s feedback consists of the choreography’s result itself: sounds from loudspeakers and
visuals from projectors.
