ARTIST INFORMATION:
THE THEATRICAL PANOPTICON
THIS IS NOT A METAPHOR! THE FESTIVAL’S OPENING ACT IS TO BE SEEN!
CENTRE NEGATIVE
Michael McClelland’s Centre Negative has appeared on New York’s ever/never label, New Jersey’s WFMU, the UK’s The Wire magazine, and has been, for lack of a better word, ‘namechecked’ by members of bands like Total Control and Parquet Courts (and, to McClelland’s groaning amusement, Henry Rollins).
The latest album, Existence Is Buzzy, is available via Spik & Span on bandcamp.
DROP ZONE
Dropzone is Indira (The Biscuits) and Garry (Dean) who make enigmatic unsettling fuzzy electro lo-fi songs about lake monsters, cat shit and other normalcies of modern living. Their style is minimalist, with spoken words and cold wave-y, looping robotic rhythms which recall Suicide, Snapper, The Normal and Tall Dwarfs.
Drop Zone’s self-titled first collection covers impressive ground over nine tracks
DUCKLINGMONSTER
A stalwart of the experimental arts scene, Ducklingmonster will perform an audio-visual set in the stairwell, celebrating the physical descent into the Audio Foundation with beats, fabric-dust, broken field-recordings, lights and yelps.
CLINTON WATKINS
Since 1994 Clinton Watkins has produced artwork exploring various combinations of sonic and visual information and the affect these combinations can have on an audience. Building on his interest in scale and fidelity, Clinton’s projects frequently employ repetition, distortion, and duration as a means to explore the characteristics of processing of sonic and visual stimuli. His works are notable for their visceral and precise presentation of scales and phenomena beyond the human by way of video projection, television monitors and screens, and custom-made audio and video hardware.
Watkins produces and performs as both a solo artist and as a member of the minimal electronic improvisation sextet, Plains, and one half of the electronic noise duo 1000.
ANTONIA BARNETT MCINTOSH
Antonia Barnett-McIntosh is a composer, performer, sound artist and freelance curator. Her compositions address the specificity of sonic gestures and their capacity for variation, translation and adaptation employing chance-based and procedural operations to produce work that involves elements of slippage and forced failure in the live space and improvisation.
Antonia’s works with words investigate speech as music: the pitches, rhythms, conversational overlaps of our everyday. She is interested in working across disciplines and has collaborated extensively with musicians, theatre and filmmakers, dancers, visual artists and poets
NIHILIST ASSAULT GROUP
A rare chance to see inspirational, The New Blockaders affiliated, UK noise-racketeers in the group’s first (anti)performance in NZ.
