Nathan Gray (Aus.) w. Tim Coster & Droszkhi – 11/10/2016

We are excited to welcome back Australian artist and musician Nathan Gray for a night of performance following the exhibition of his moving image work ‘The Shakes’ earlier in the year.

Informed by his work in the experimental music communities of Australia, Gray’s practice exists on the fringes of dance, contemporary art, and experimental music. At the centre of his current practice lies the ongoing diaristic series ‘Works<30s’, a series of short works which employ brevity as a strategy for artistic expression. There is an undeniable humour at play in these works, addressed to the body and its relation to objects, and to the experience of time.

Gray’s work was shown at the 19th Biennale of Sydney, and the 2012 Tarrawarra Biennale. His work Score for Dance was shown at Open Archive in 2011 and ACCA in 2014 and he has had numerous solo shows including Work with Me Here, 2015 at RMIT DesignHub, Things That Fit Together, 2014 at Utopian Slumps, Theorist Training Camp, 2012 at Westspace, and ACTS, 2012 at Utopian Slumps.

He performs in the duo Snawklor with Dylan Martorell, and with the ensemble Ancient Memories. His first solo album, Spazio Elasticowas, was released earlier in 2016.

For this show, Gray will perform his ‘To Do List’, a series of deflations, disappointments and anticlimaxes framed as experimental music. He will be joined by local expat and regular fixture of the Melbourne scene, Tim Coster, and rare outing by local recluse, Droszkhi.
