Audio Foundation is pleased to present the first musical meeting of two brilliant ex-pat improvising guitarists – Mexico City based maverick Misha Marks and NYC based musician Sally Gates.
Misha Marks was born in Wellington and grew up near Karamea, on the West Coast of the South Island. After spending time living in Wellington, Barcelona, Vienna and London he moved to Mexico City in 2008, where he still lives. He plays guitar, baritone horn, tuba and latarra (a homemade electric guitar made out of an old metallic first-aid kit) and is active in the adventurous music scene of Mexico City and beyond.
Sally Gates is a New Zealand guitarist and composer, currently based in New York. Her instrumental trio, Titan to Tachyons, released their debut album, ‘Cactides’ through Nefarious Industries.
Sally often performs in NYC with improvisational ensembles and musicians such as Triphammer, Trevor Dunn, Greg Fox, John Longstreth, and notably as a ‘Secret Guest’ at a John Zorn improv night. From these performances and her prior work with the progressive metal band Orbweaver, she has become known as an adept, experimental player.
