Hermione Johnson – prepared piano
Roger Manins – saxophones
Chris O’Connor – drums

Hermione Johnson is a classically-trained pianist, composer, and free-improviser from Auckland, New Zealand, who focuses on extended and prepared piano techniques. She investigates the timbral qualities of the piano and expanding its range of voices with contrasting patterns and phrases in different registers. She is a key figure in the New Zealand experimental music scene, moving freely between genres.
Johnson plays the prepared piano as if she is orchestrating the liquid sounds of raindrops, and later she accompanies these fragile, dream-like sounds with the ethereal humming whispers of vibrating sticks. Johnson allows these delicate sounds to float gently while weaving these enigmatic sounds into a truly mind-expanding sonic experience. Eyal Hareuveni

Roger Manins is widely regarded one of the premier saxophonists in the Southern hemisphere. He performs regularly throughout New Zealand and Australia, and is featured on over 40 albums as a sideman, with six releases of his own. Roger is a senior lecturer at Auckland University, and is the creative director of CJC Creative Jazz Club Aotearoa.

Chris O’Connor is well established as one of New Zealand’s most versatile musicians and is sought after as a drummer and composer by the most respected musicians, directors and choreographers working in New Zealand and abroad. His musicality exhibits a vitality stemming from an improvisational ingenuity that he brings to all his collaborations.
