In association with Archana Bhurke’s exhibition, शोर, the Audio Foundation invites you to join Archana and AF staff for a sound-walk and drawing project in Albert Park.
We will congregate at the main rotunda at Albert Park at 9am where Archana will introduce her practice alongside strategies for graphically interpreting the sonorous world. Following this, we will move throughout the park, listening to the local soundscape, pausing to draw as moments to do so present themselves. We will meet back the main rotunda at 10.30am before returning to the Audio Foundation for coffee, pastries and discussion.
Saturday 1 May @ Albert Park, Auckland
Meet at main rotunda at 9am
Please bring your own drawing materials and $5 for the pastries
In the event of wet weather, we will postpone to Saturday 8 May
Archana Bhurke on her installation at the Audio Foundation:
“I have proposed a walking methodology for the sonic cartography of places in the city where I discover known and unknown sounds. By recording and interpreting these acoustic cues through drawing and mark-making, I develop new visual languages to delineate my attachments with this new place. While keeping inspiration from the traditional Kalamkari art, and using digital software to design, replicate and screen print the sound motifs on different textiles, I explore new approaches to this heritage artform. This project aims to share this newfound knowledge through surface design, where I manifest surfaces that tell my story of belonging.”
