Audio Foundation presents… What Have You Been Up To?
A series of informal discussions with a variety of artists introducing their approaches to working with sound.

David Long is one New Zealand’s most experienced and prolific composers for film. He has worked on all of Peter Jackson’s films of the last decade, composed the score for Gardening With Soul which premiered in the Wellington Film Festival ,as well as Beyond The Edge, a feature documentary on Ed Hillary’s ascent of Mount Everest directed by Leanne Pooley. It is a score combining orchestra, viola caipiras and feedback featuring performances by Riki Gooch (percussion), Richard Nunns (taonga puoro) and Natalia Mann (harp). Beyond the Edge premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2013.

In this edition of What Have You Been Up To?, David will introduce some concepts and challenges of making music for film comparing different conceptual approaches for various settings – independent films vs. larger commercial efforts. A focus on the general relation of music and image will allow participants from any background to enjoy and learn from this talk.
