There Not Here is a monthly broadcast of field recordings on AFM.

Each edition of There Not Here is organised around a theme determined by Tash van Schaardenburg, Jimmy Solórzano and Sam Longmore, artists working with and in relation to field recording in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. Responding to the given theme, each of these artists produces a selection of recordings over the course of a month. These sonic excerpts of place are collated and broadcast on AFM from 7pm on the second Wednesday of each month, before being archived on the AFMixcloud page.

The theme for the first There Not Here broadcast was ‘Tāmaki Makaurau by Night’, suggested by Jimmy Solórzano, and will be broadcast from 7pm on Wednesday 17 March. In response to this theme, Jimmy made recordings of suburban backyard ambiences, the North Western Motorway on a Saturday evening, and during a stroll along Dominion Road; in recordings of overnight roadworks and boisterous drama Tash explored the post-lockdown mood of the central city, and Sam, in collaboration with Melanie Küng, surveyed the sonic variety of Morningside’s Fowlds Park.

Future There Not Here broadcasts will occur from 7pm on the second Wednesday of each month.
