The Village
There once were some peasants who lived in a small village surrounded by tall mountains. The earth was red and rich and the mountain landscape was blue and beautiful. Each day the peasants would fetch fresh water, harvest their crops and care for their babies. But dangerous blue monsters lurked in the towering blue mountains. The peasants, who feared the blue monsters, would never stray far from the village. The village was their refuge. Some days, when the sun was gold and bright and shone beyond the mountain ridges, a peasant might cast a weary glance into the distance and feel her stony heart lighten, at a glimpse of yellow mountains on the horizon.
Ruby Read and Heidi Brickell are Auckland-based artists. The Village exhibition will feature video/performance and sculptural works.
