Please join us to celebrate the opening of Social Objects, a new installation by Australian artist, Eamon Sprod.
Social Objects assembles a collection of found and borrowed sounds, speakers, everyday objects, and light to construct a new and active sound-space within the architectural frame of the Audio Foundation. In bringing together these disparate and somewhat arbitrary elements, Eamon Sprod playfully works to fragment, rearrange, dislocate, and re-contextualise the collected materials to shape a shifting series of perspectives on a static stage set.
Social Objects sees a continuation of Sprod’s practice of purposefully working with what can be found at hand to hear and see what might happen when things are drawn together and pulled apart. By following what sound might be heard to do when introduced to objects, rooms and listeners, recorded audio is cast in the varied role of an invitation, actor, catalyst and a means of inquiry within each of the situations to which it is added. In doing so, his work subtly tests how understandings of spatial-sound can be imaginatively upended.
