THERE NOT HERE 05 – Sounds of Joy

Each edition of There Not Here is organised around a theme determined by Tash van Schaardenburg, Jimmy Solórzano, Xin Cheng, and Sam Longmore, artists working with and in relation to field recording in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. Responding to the given theme, each of these artists produces a selection of recordings over the course of a month. These sonic excerpts of place are collated and broadcast on AFM from 7pm on the second Wednesday of each month, before being archived on the AFMixcloud page.

The fifth There Not Here broadcast is organised around the theme, ‘Sounds of Joy’, suggested by Xin Cheng, and will be broadcast from 7pm on Wednesday 21 July. In response to this theme, Tash presents a series of sounds recalling the early morning processes of downtown Tāmaki Makaurau, Sam has two short recordings — the first of sparrows roosting in the metal facade of an Audi car yard along Great North Road; the second of contented feline rumblings — Jimmy shares recordings of hikes around Piopiotahi and the Westland Tai Poutini National Park, and Xin shares recordings of the Manawa Karioi Ecological Restoration Project in Island Bay, Wellington, from the spring of 2020.

There Not Here broadcasts occur from 7pm on the second Wednesday of each month.
