There are no such things as wrong notes or mistakes.

Please join us for the debut performance by members of the Māpura Studios Creative Music Program, with support from Jenny & Jade, and Cuts Morehu!

On Wednesday afternoons clashing irregular rhythms, squealing electronics, and chaotic crooning can be heard wafting across Fowlds Park in Mt Albert. Its the sound of the Māpura Studios Creative Music Program.

Facilitated by Stefan Neville (Pumice) participants create soundscapes & alternate reality classic hits using piles of old keyboards, percussion, ukuleles, effects pedals & anything that can make a noise. The approach is spontaneous and immersive. The group utilize gut instinct expression and natural ability to create an environment where anyone can contribute & any sound can be considered music.

The group has a bandcamp page to share their recordings (https://mapuramusic.bandcamp.com/)  & were recently included on a double LP compilation of international experimental music being made by people living with disabilities called “We Are The World”. This was released by the Paris record label Sonic Protest. This October the group will make its live debut concert at The Cupid Bar in Point Chevalier and anything could happen!

Māpura is a creative space that provides programmes and activities in visual arts practice, creative expression, dance-movement, music and art therapy for people living with disability and diversity. Māpura Studios has a policy of inclusion: any person of any background and life experience who is interested in developing their creativity is welcome.
