Join us for an exciting two days filled with music-related workshops, experiments, talks and performances lead by artists, musicians and composers. Join artists Juneau Projects for a song-writing workshop and record your very own track. Design a record sleeve for your CD which you can then take home with you. Artist Vicki Bennett and composer and performer Leo Chadburn, a.k.a Simon Bookish, will give Lectures for Children inspired by their practice, animated by live sound and visual projections. The creators of Drawing Paper, together with artists from Liverpool artist collective The Royal Standard, will explore the relationship between sound, performance and drawing in LINE-OUT, a series of specially commissioned music performances. Take part in these experimental sessions by drawing your own interpretation of the performance or just listen and enjoy. Artist Yuri Suzuki will work with participants to transfer drawing into music using a miniature robot. Whilst drawing, the robot translates the data in to sound giving participants the opportunity to draw on paper and compose music at the same time. Visit the Liverpool Biennial website for more information on the Experimental Music School programme. All ages are welcome to these drop-in events. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Entry to any Experimental Music School event is free with a Summer Camp ticket. She is a graduate of BA(Hons) Music and Visual Arts at the University of Brighton, UK. Observation and exploration of human adaptation to changing natural and urban environments is a key motivation in her work, bringing to attention the delicate relationship based on life cycles, survival and spirituality. Artisitc practice is split into two main areas: Post-Apocalyptic Survival Preparation Studies (PASPS) and Investigations into Human Trace (IIHT). With a particular emphasis on distance communications and technology, the work takes a sensitive and responsive approach, through site-specific research, to create interdisciplinary pieces. Part of this programme is a series of curated radio broadcasts in partnership with Stress.Fm and the Lisbon Architecture Triennale. The programme invites a rethinking of the role of radio and its ability to intervene within local and international communities. Our second open call broadcast, 19- 22 September is titled 'Intermission'. 'Intermission' invites an international response asking you to make an 'audio portrait' of your locality by recording a 20 minute walk- mapping the air space between a and b. The ambition for this project is to create a 3 day radio broadcast that maps a patchwork of sonic landscapes from Bristol to Bangalore, Lisbon to L.A and Mexico City to Milford-On-Sea. Could the notion of artistic autonomy be the very thing that prevents us from creating? Throughout my 15-year experience of sequencing and performing electronic pop, mostly through my main project Disasteradio, I?ve come to many pitfalls. Some songs sit unfinished on my hard disk after literally years of on-and-off work. There are many benefits espoused to limitations in music creation: hardware, vintage equipment, acoustic instruments - but I have discovered a new joy in thinking up new conceptual limitations. Making genre pastiches is a low-intensity activity that provides some of the satisfactions of art-making (the craft side, the technical challenges of getting a period sounds) without the more challenging and draining aspect (the spark of inspiration, the envisioning of something-new-under-the-sun).? Simon Reynolds - Energy Flash: A Journey Through Rave Music and Dance Culture. I?ll be discussing these notions which compelled me to write music in a presentation concerning my recent side-project Eyeliner, which I wrote, mixed, and mastered an album for in three weeks. Eyeliner is a ?very easy listening? electronic project informed by James Ferraro?s ?Far Side Virtual?, Vaporwave and the releases of 1980s German electronic label Innovative Communication. Luke Rowell is a computer musician and synthesizer performer who has played in over 20 countries and released 11 pop albums as Disasteradio, Eyeliner and Super Doobie Bros. He has studied sonic arts, composition and musicology and Victoria University in Wellington.
